WELCOME to SEED MD

The SEED School of Maryland serves students from across Maryland’s 24 counties as the state’s only tuition-free, college-preparatory boarding school. Our entry points for admission are 6th grade and 9th grade, and all students are accepted through a fair and equitable lottery process. The application for the 2026–2027 school year is now closed. The application for the 2027–2028 school year will reopen on September 1, 2026.

We believe every child deserves the opportunity to SUCCEED.

Dear Prospective Families,

Thank you for your interest in The SEED School of Maryland!

Our mission is to provide an exemplary education and living experience that equips students with the academic foundation, critical thinking skills, and social-emotional development necessary to succeed in high school, graduate from college, and thrive beyond the classroom.

Choosing the right school is an important decision, and we want to ensure that every student who joins The SEED School of Maryland is positioned for success and truly wants to be part of our community. SEED is a unique partnership between students, families, and staff. Because we are a public boarding school, both students and parents/guardians must be fully committed to the boarding school experience, the academic expectations, and the opportunities SEED provides.

A strong candidate for SEED is a student who can safely and healthily navigate a boarding school environment, is committed to preparing for college, embraces a rigorous academic program, and is self-motivated to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.

Our primary admissions entry points are 6th and 9th grade, with enrollment determined through our lottery system. Families should also be mindful that our admissions process begins the year prior to the student’s intended enrollment. Our admissions cycle typically runs from September through March, with families receiving admissions decisions in March for the following school year.

For this reason, we strongly encourage families to begin exploring SEED early and to plan ahead. The first step in the process is to visit our 52-acre campus and experience firsthand all that SEED MD has to offer.

We hope to see you soon and look forward to supporting you through the admissions process.

Sincerely,

The SEED School of Maryland Admissions Team

“It has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my children. They have become leaders; they have become independent. And they are college ready.”
